AirStep is a music production application designed for the leap motion controller.
If you don't have it, you can always use your mouse and keyboard.

This application is composed of three parts:

  • Performer
  • Sequencer
  • Synthesizer

To switch from one part to another one, use the "swipe" gesture of your leap motion, or use the left and right arrow key of your keyboard.

Swipe Gesture

Performer

The performer is a live drum player.
To use it, place your hands in front of you and tap the rectangles in the bottom. Each finger will trigger a different drum sound.

You can also use your keyboard as drum pads by pressing the keys from "Q" to "M" (azerty).

To record your drum pattern in the sequencer, activate the "Overdub" button by clicking on it with your index finger, your mouse or by pressing the "Enter" key on your keyboard.

  • Metronome
  • Overdub

To help you to stay in the rhythm, you can activate the metronome next to the "Overdub" button with your index finger, your mouse or by pressing the "Space" key on your keyboard. Once the "Overdub" button is red, every triggered drum sound will be recorded.

To change the soundbank, use the "circle" gesture of your leap motion, or use the up and down arrow key on your keyboard.

Circle Gesture

Sequencer

The sequencer lets you create and edit your drum patterns.

Each arrow corresponds to a different sound which are those of the performer part.
Each column corresponds to 1/16th of a bar (1 bar = 4 beats).

To add a note with your leap motion, push your index finger in the direction of the screen until it fills the colored square at the desired place.

To change the BPM, use the "circle" gesture of your leap motion, or use the up and down arrow key on your keyboard. A clockwise direction will increase it, an anti-clockwise direction will decrease it.

You can temporarily mute each sound with the "mute" buttons located in the left side of the grid, and you can delete each arrow with the crossed red square located in the right side of the grid.

  • Mute
  • Erase

Four playing modes are available for the sequencer. Use the yellow looping icons located in the left side by clicking on it with your leap motion, your mouse or by pressing the A, Z, E and R key on your keyboard (azerty).
